As head of project development at Picture Canning Company I worked closely with Steve Everson (Chief Engineer) for 2 years, on numerous projects from conception to recording or live transmission. Many of these projects were far from straightforward, and Steve played a crucial role in their development through his genuine desire to overcome challenge.
Steve is both a very capable and innovative engineer who thinks every application through and explores every technical option to deliver effective results for the client. His technical planning and design is meticulous and, unusually for an engineer always sympathetic to creative, logistical and budgetary requirements.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for the right engineering position.

Television Production & Consultancy
Cove Broadcast developed a concept fibre optic system for broadcast cameras at the same time as Picture Canning were looking for 6 systems for their new OB Unit.
Steve Everson visited us on many occasions to assist in the development of this product, now called 'Z Link' and recommended some specific additional features to compliment Coves list of options. This included: dual channel talk back requirement, red and green tally, extra return video signals and time code feeds, advice on Audio facilities and converting parallel video to SDI
Steve then assisted Cove in achieving this list and helped in the final shape of the product with many long hours beta testing the prototype.
Steve's experience in the OB / Studio environment was invaluable to Cove.
Since those early days Steve has kept in touch and helped in evaluating connector manufacturers (choosing Lemo for Picture Cannings' application) and worked on the development of the HD transport option and in-line PSU system. Whilst also being available for demonstrations for potential customers like Danish Radio and demonstrating Z Link at IBC
Without Steve’s help the project would have taken longer to finish and would have needed extra options added at a later date as it is it was right first time.

Video Matters
As a video engineer I have worked with Steve on numerous occasions. We first worked together at VMI where I was operations manager and he was the senior engineer. He was responsible for the maintenance and repair of the entire hire stock and also helped build a small DV based portable production unit. He left VMI with me to start a new company, SDI Broadcast, the concept of which was a small fibre based Outside Broadcast Unit, which could utilize ENG cameras. After much research and experimentation the truck hit the road and without a shakedown went straight to work at a large music event with no problems, a testament to Steve’s design skills. His aptitude for problem solving was a key part of the success of the Outside Broadcast Unit and he rose to every challenge. SDI Broadcast was eventually sold to the Picture Canning Company, where Steve went on to build a fibre based Portable Production Unit, Rebuilt the OB Unit into a bigger vehicle and has engineered many broadcast television programmes. Steve would be an asset to any company or production.
